I've had to make a change to the way that you register for a daltonr.com account. If you already have registered then this won't matter, but if you are thinking about registering then this will be of interest to you. In the past it was possible to register for an account. An email would be sent to you and you simply had to click on the link in the email and you were registered, you could log in and see the parts of the site that are hidden from people who don't have an account. Unfortunately the internet being what it is this led to a lot of spammers (the people who send you junk mail) creating accounts and then posting spam on the forums etc. There are all sorts of things I can try to stop this happening but the simplest and most effective is to stop people creating their own accounts. Anyone who genuinely wants a daltonr.com account can now get one by clicking the Contact Us link on the top of the page, let me know your name and email address and anything else you feel like telling me, and I'll mail you back with a username and password. I'll try to reply to you as quickly as possible with your login in details. It won't be as fast as the automated process that was there before but at least we'll keep the spammers out. Sorry for this inconvenience, the internet would be a much better place if we didn't have to put up with idiots who send spam, but it's just a fact of life I'm afraid. |

Daltonr.com now allows registered members to create their own mini website. Each member can have up to 5 pages of text, photos, even music and video. To create your own page just log into your daltonr.com account and then click the 'My Pages' link on the top menu bar. You'll be shown how to create a new page and manage your site. You don't need to understand html or any web programming, it's "almost" as easy as sending an email. If you have any problems getting your site to work send me an email and I'll sort it out. |

I was getting a bit bored of the old daltonr.com look. Hopefully you'll like what I've done with the Place. The site still works in basically the same way, it's just a new lick of paint. January was our second busiest month ever, with a few new members and lots of visits. We had 15 thousand requests for pages. To put that in context in January '06 we had 15 hundred page requests. |

If you have some news you'd like to add to the site, or if you have any questions about anything on daltonr.com, you can post to the Forums. Click the Forum button on the main screen and you'll be taken to the Forum section of the Website. If you have a daltonr.com account and you've logged in, you'll see 3 forums. A Public Help forum, a Family Tree Forum, and an announcements Forum. If you don't have an account, or you haven't logged in, you'll only see the Help Forum. To view the posts in a forum click on the Forum Name. This will display a list of all the conversations (or threads) that are happening in that forum. For example at the moment there is only one thread called "Welcome to the Help Forum". Beside the Thread title you can see the number of replies, the author of the original post, the number of times the thread has been viewed, and the time and author of the most recent reply. Click on the thread title to read the conversation, and/or add your own comments. If you want to ask a new question or start a new topic click the "New Topic" button. This will bring up the message screen. Enter a subject, and a message, then click submit. |
